The Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government (SSG),Barr. Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, has called on practicing journalists in the state to be professional and responsible in their reportage to enhance public appreciation of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration.
Barr. Magaji made the call when members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) paid him a congratulatory in his office.
He described journalists as key partners in governance, emphasizing their role in shaping public perception and fostering socio-political stability.
He urged journalists to avoid sensational or inciting reports that could trigger unrest or mislead the public, stressing that the media must serve as a bridge between the government and the people. According to him, while the press has the responsibility to hold leaders accountable, it must also ensure that its narratives are constructive and geared toward societal progress.
The SSG further assured the journalists of the government’s commitment to strengthening media relations and fostering an enabling environment for press freedom and professionalism.
Earlier, Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Isaac Ukpoju, stated that their visit was not only to congratulate the SSG on his appointment but also to appeal for greater inclusion in the coverage of government activities.
Ukpoju reaffirmed the chapel’s commitment to balanced reporting and collaboration with the state government in projecting its developmental strides while maintaining journalistic integrity.
