Adamu Bako Ninga Elected as Nasarawa PDP Chairman, Vows to Foster Unity and Reconciliation

From Abubakar Suleiman

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State held a landmark congress on Monday, resulting in the election of Hon. Adamu Bako Ninga as the new state chairman.

In a decisive victory, Ninga captured 1,403 votes, overshadowing his opponent, Bar. Mathew John, who received only seven votes.

Out of the 1,414 accredited voters, four votes were deemed invalid, reflecting strong participation and a clear outcome.

Senator Simon Mwadkwon, chair of the PDP National Committee that supervised the congress, praised the process as “credible and fair” and urged unity among party members. “PDP is one big family,” he stated.

“There is no winner and no vanquished. Whoever emerged today should remember that their mandate is to serve the people.”

The congress also filled other key positions within the state’s PDP executive.

Engr. Keffas Danlami was elected as secretary, Yahaya Usman Bunu as treasurer, Chinenege Inusa Muhammed as state publicity secretary, and Hanatu John as state women leader.

Bala Aron was appointed as state legal adviser, Dr. Jacob as financial secretary, and Awesu Abdullahi as auditor.

Additionally, vice-chairpersons for the state’s three zones were elected: Marshin Shema A (North), Isah Bala Mangi (South), and Atahiru Osu Audu (West).

In his acceptance speech, Ninga expressed deep appreciation for the party’s unity and committed to prioritizing reconciliation. “Our duty is to reach out to members who may feel aggrieved so we can work as one family,” he said, underscoring his intent to strengthen party cohesion.

Ninga also voiced concerns about transparency in local election processes, advocating for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take on a more prominent role in local government elections.

“Our party will not commit our members to waste their resources and energy unless transparency is assured,” he affirmed.

The PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Nasarawa, Dr. Emmanuel Ombugadu, celebrated the outcome, describing it as a win for internal democracy and a reflection of the people’s will.

“This election reflects the will of the people,” he said, stressing the importance of addressing internal issues amicably.

The new leadership team now looks forward to unifying the party and enhancing its presence across Nasarawa State as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.
