The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center Jos has donated 220 tricycle wheelchairs to People living with disabilities in Kogi State.
The Director of the Beautiful gate handicapped Chief Ayuba Burki Gufwan While Presenting the wheelchairs at the Palace of Attah of Igala and the Palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebira land in Okene said the gesture was to fulfil the mandate of the centre which is to provide mobility aid to all people living with disabilities in Nigeria and beyond.
Chief Gufwan explained that the gesture is to also enable the beneficiaries to be independent of others by using the wheelchairs to either enrol in a school or learn a trade.
He added that he said we always discourage beneficiaries from engaging in street begging but to be productive thereby increasing the wealth of the nation.
A partner of Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center Jos, Dr. Ron Rice, a retired Reverend from Seattle USA called on the government of Nigeria and the traditional institutions to create job opportunities for People Living with Disabilities in their domain. Dr. Rice an 86-year-old retired Reverend was in Nigeria 31 times in the company of his wife Sharon, he explained that some of the money for the wheelchairs was donated by Christians in the US.
Responding, The Attah of Igala His Royal Highness Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa II, expressed happiness and joy at the act of love shown to his people, saying it was the first time such a gesture was happening in his kingdom under his watch as described it as the act simplifies true love.
The Royal father said he was moved to do more for people living with disabilities in his kingdom and encouraged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use.
Also At the Palace of Ohinoyi of Ebira land,
Alhaji Dr Abdulrahaman Ado Ibrahim, represented by the Obobanyi of Ihima HRH Dr Samuel Adai Onimisi thanked the centre and its partners for the great show of kindness to the people of Ebira land.
According to the Royal monarch, the act of kindness shown by the Beautiful Gate team is the true reflection that good people exist. He called on the beneficiaries to shun street begging as this wheelchair will serve as legs that will enable them to do things independently of others.
The highlight of the day was the donation of a tricycle to a street beggar named Ahmed Usman who was seen begging on the street of Lokoja, the unexpected gift left Ahmed in tears, and he prayed for God to continue to uplift the centre.
