Palliatives diversion: Nasarawa assembly summons commissioner in charge of Humanitarian Elayo

Following rumors marking round of involvement , Nasarawa state government top officials in diverting palliatives meant for the masses to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy.

The State House of Assembly set up 7 man committee to investigate into the alleged diversion of palliatives by government officials and stakeholders has invited the State Commissioner for NGOs and Humanitarian Affairs, Miss Margaret Elayo to explain her role in the distribution of the palliatives meant for the poor of the poorest.

According to the committee she is also expected to give details of what she know regarding palliatives distribution Committee and other relevant informations.

Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the committee and the Deputy Speaker of the House made this known when Elayo appeared before the committee today in Lafia.

The Chairman of the committee said that the committee was set up to find out how the palliatives provided by the Federal and State Governments were distributed to the poor of the poorest in the state.

” We have decided to call you based on the mandate given to this committee and we want to give everybody fair hearing.

” As the committee was not set up to witch hunt anybody” he said.

The Committee chairman urged the commissioner to freely brief his committee on the distribution of the palliatives.

He added that she was on Oath while explaining her role in the distribution of the palliatives before the House.

Responding, Margret Elayo, the Commissioner for NGO’s and Humanitarian Affairs said that the palliatives have been distributed to local government areas through committee set up by the government.

” Before I came on board, the state government has set up the distribution committee,” she said.

She promised to provide all the necessary information at her disposal that will help the committee.
