The Nigeria Immigration Service has disclosed that terrorism and kidnapping are trans-border crimes,calling on citizens to change their orientation of harboring irrrgular migrants
The Comptroller of Immigration Service,Niger State Command,Samuel Nongo made the accession in his key note address to mark 60th Anniversary of the service,held at Idris Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre,Minna today,3rd August 2023.
Comptroller Samuel Nongo explained that migration management is the business of government at all levels and citizens,noting that the team work would go along way to forestall trans-border crimes across the country.
The Immigration boss maintained that the service is well positioned to handle migration management in line with international best practice, adding however that the service was the first in the African country to key into the latest international reforms in travel documents which earned her to emerged as four times winner of the best performing agency in ease of doing business.
According to him,”Nigeria Immigration Service started it’s journey as a department extracted from the Nigeria Police in 1958,later established as an agency of government by an Act of Parliament in 1963,he added that the service was granted a Para-Military status in 1992,following some structural reforms”.Nongo said.
Comptroller Samuel while,acknowledging the support by the Niger State Government to the command,he appealed to the state government to critically look into the state security architecture with a view to bringing all security agencies on board in tackling the menace of insecurity bedeviling the state.
