The Management of Bingham University, Karu have confirmed the suspension of three students over drug abuse and their subsequent arrest by the Nigerian Police Force over an alleged murder of a commercial transporter.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr. Daburi Misal, Director, Public Affairs, Bingham University and made available to Newsmen in Karu.

Mr. Misal, stated that confirmation followed reactions to a rourmour going viral on social media on the arrest of the trio for the alleged crime by authorities of the Abuja Police Command.

According to him, Abuja Police Command had arrested the trio for allegedly killing one Obasi Okeke, a Bolt taxi transportation driver over a scuffle on transport fare of their trip to a destination in Abuja.

He also clarified that the suspension of the students from school was for drug abuse.

“The management of the university hereby expresses it’s profound sadness over the development and states that the affected students were in March 2023 identified through the university’s zero tolerance policy on drugs and suspended them from the university for being in possession of Marijuana and other illicit substances,” he said.

“As required by the university, the students had been expected to have been taken to a rehabilitation center by their guardians and taken back to the university only after the certification by the university’s psychiatrist. He stated.

“It was therefore shocking to see that students who were supposed to be in rehabilitation are been paraded by the police in Abuja.

“The university however pledges it’s full cooperation with the police in their investigation in the matter while expressing its deepest sympathy to the family of the deceased,” he added.
