Bandits continue to lay siege on Niger communities

Armed men believed to be bandits continued their deadly attacks on three Communities in Rafi Local government area of Niger State in the last four days without any respite from the relevant security agencies.The armed men on Sunday invaded Yakila community in Rafi Local in their large numbers abducted 56 persons mostly women and children just as they killed 15 others among them include the head of the Vigilante group in the community Saidu Garba.The trumpet reliably gathered that the dare devils armed men stormed the village in the early hours of Sunday on their motorcycles numbering over 85 with each carrying three persons.On their arrival in the sleepy Community, it was gathered started shooting sporadically to scare the villagers who now started scampering for safety.It was further gathered that the deadly armed bandits were armed with sophisticated guns like Ak47 submachine gun and other dangerous weapons which they used freely unchallenged.The gun men operated for over four hours uninterrupted as they held the entire Community hostages just as they set four building in the community ablaze. It was also gathered that the armed bandits also carted away 98 Cattles and other animals during their deadly operation which lasted for over four hours.Some part of Niger state have been placed under heavy siege by these dare devils armed bandits whose activities cut across three local government area of Rafi, Mariga and Paikoro local government in the last one weeks. Just last week, some gang of heavily armed men believed to be men Islamics state of West Africa Province (ISWAP),invaded Kafinkoro and Kwakuty villages and wreacked monumental harvoc on the local.During the operation, it was gathered that over 57 persons mostly women and children were said to have been evacuated by the armed men.The same members of the ISWAP report had it that not fewer than 10 farmers were killed while working on their farm.The trumpet further gathered some yet-to be identified gun men in the early hours of Saturday barricaded Kontagora Tegina highways and evacuated passengers in a eighteen seaters bus traveling to Yauri in Kebbi state.All the occupants of the bus were said to have been evacuated to the forest by the deadly armed men.The police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) Niger state police command Mr Wasiu Abiodun DSP could not be reach for his comment as several calls on his cellphone number was not pick.Worried by the unabated activities of armed bandits in Niger state, governor Mohammed Umar Bago had visited the service chiefs in Abuja to assist his government in curtailing the increasing activities of armed bandits in the state.In his message to commemorate the June 12, the governor through his Chief Press Secretary Alhaji Bologi Ibrahim had reiterated his administration preparedness to bring to an end the operational activities of armed bandits and criminal Activities in the state.Commenserating with the victims of the recent armed bandits in the state, the governor according to the press secretary assured the people of the state of his administration commitment to safeguard the state at all times.
