The planned Industrial action by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), as well as other affliated union could affect the proceedings of the ongoing National Assembly Elections petition Tribunal (EPT) across the country.The National bodies of the Judiciary Staff Union Of Nigeria (JUSUN) have Directed its members across the country to withdraw their service to join the NLC to protest the removal of the subsidy announced by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
This was contained in a letter signed on behalf of the Secretary Generl of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), by Moses John Akwashiki and obtained by the Trumpet in Minna, call on all zonals vice presidents to coordinate their zones by ensuring that Branches and Chapters Chairmen mobilise their members for a total compliances.The letter read in part:
” This to inform all branches and chapters of our great union across Nigeria to begin mobilisation for a Nationwide action and withdrawal of service which would commence on Wednesday 7th June,2023.
” This followed a decision of the National Executive Council (NEC), Of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at her meeting on 2nd June 2023, over the increase in the pump price of petroleum Motor spirit (PMS), by Federal Government through Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“The letter further directed all branches of the Union across the country to ensure a total compliances by in ensuring a withdrawal of services in their respective branches.
The industrial actions, could stampede the proceedings of the ongoing election Litigations in the various states Election petitions tribunals across the country which was constituted by the Court of Appeal to adjudicate on the out come of the February 25 presidential and National Assembly Elections.Findings revealed that the Election petition tribunals has only six months from the commencement of its sitting to wide up and with the planned protest it will affect the proceedingsSofar, the tribunals, according to a source ” has not even reach anywhere in it proceedings as witnesses and some documents were still been tender by some petitioners” Already, the Secretary of the Niger State National and State Assembly Elections petition Tribunal (ETP), Barrister Mohammed Usman Jankoli have written to the Niger State Commissioner of police Mr Joshua Ogundele Ayodeji for the deployment of his men to protect the members of the tribunal.But in a swift reaction, the Niger State Chairman of the Judiciary Staff Union Of Nigeria (JUSUN) who is also the National Legal Adviser of the Union Barrister Mahmud Ameenu Muye has said that the Branch will be Mobilize to ensure the total compliances of the withdrawal of the service across the courts in the state.” The Election Petition Tribunal staff are also members of the Union, the issue on none compliance as a result of the ongoing Election Tribunal does not even arise in the first place. ” This is a national issue. And the directive is coming from the National Secretariat of our great union. So what are you talking about.” On Wednesday, the 7th of June, 2023, we are going to padlock the gate of the court to ensure the total compliances of the directive of our National executive council” he declared
