The Jos South Local Government Council Chairman, of Plateau State Hon. Gideon Dung Dandareng, has stated that the Thursday protest by the members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) is politically motivated.

Hon. Dandareng disclosed this while with Journalists at his Residence in Jos.

He said as a firm and true believer of Christ, he knows what it means for the scripture to say “the worker deserves his or her wages”.

He also revealed that the reason why the NULGE chapter of the Council didn’t receive their salaries uup todate is due to the discrepancy in the figure presented to the Local Government by the officials of the NUT due to the constant increase in the teacher’s wages, he said.

Adding that he just pay Jos South LG workers their March salary on Friday last week, which he said payment of salaries is not even the issue because, in November the salary of teachers was 71m and in December it was 72m, in January it was 74m and in February it rose to 78m and guest what all the retiring workers in Jos South LGC are teachers from grade level 12 to 14 yet the salary wages keep increasing.

Hon. Dandareng stated that he knows Local Government on the Plateau who are owning teachers several months of salaries amounting to six months, some five months, some four months and the rest.

He said Jos South LGC under his rightful watch and in his wisdom to find a lasting solution, has engaged the services of external auditors to come to an audit why the salaries of teachers in the LGA keep increasing higher despite there being no employment, and people are retiring while some left the service to other greener pastures while some left the service as a result of death, but yet the salary Keep increasing.

Hon. Dandareng noted that he has friends, family and well-wishers who are teachers and for that, he can never betray the mandate and trust given to him by the entire people of the Council as Chairman.

He also revealed that another reason for the delay in the payment of Jos South NUT workers was due to incoherence presented to the Council despite the fact there is no employment, workers are retiring and also people are dying daily but their salary keeps increasing. He said.
