Security: Karu LG’s summons peace meeting to reunite aggrieve groups

As part of efforts to bring back peace and unity among divergent tribe and religion group with view to put to and end of communal disturbances.

The authority of Karu Local Government Council of Nasarawa state has summoned a security meeting to reunite and reconcile warring groups in the area after a recent deadly communal clash that claimed lives and properties.

The Council Boss, Mr James Thomas, disclosed this shortly at the end of the security meeting that took place at the palace of Paramount ruler of Panda Development Area in Karu, The Odyong Nyankpa, Mr Joel Aninge.( JP).

It was gathered that on May 11, a young Fulani man travelling to Kwaja village, Gitata in Karu LGA was attacked by unknown gunmen and later died.



“The attack and death of the young man thereby instigated reprisal attacks on Kwaja village and nearby communities leading to loss of lives and properties of some of locals in the affected villages.

While stating the reasons for the Mr. Thomas said it was line with his administration converted efforts to reunite and reconcile the warring groups and search for not only lasting solutions but permanent stoppage to future reoccurrence of the violent clash again.

“I want to assure you that we have com up with resolutions to ensure a reoccurrence of the incident never happens again in our communities. A stich in time they say saves nine,” he said.

He explained that a committee was formed during the meeting to get the accurate data of those affected with a view to ameliorating the hardships of those directly affected by the incident with relief materials.

“The Mada Community in the entire Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone brought there own relief materials and we also in local government the council brought ours.

” The purpose is to see if we an cushion the challenges of those affected by this incident.

“The committee will get to work by getting to know them so that they can access these food items that have been brought for them,” he added.

Mr. Thomas, equally, pointed out that another agreement was reached at the meeting for the formation of Farmers,Herders committees at various communities in the area and their names submitted to the Traditional Ruler of Panda Development Area in Karu, The Odyong Nyankpa, Mr Joel Aninge who co-chaired the meeting with the chairman.

“Their names are to be submitted to the traditional ruler in two weeks time. The purpose of this is to see how best we can be able to tackle such challenges as farmers, Herders clashes because we are in farming season.

“By the grace of God,the security operatives have assured us they are fully prepared to prevent the reoccurrence of the violent clashes and maintain peace and order in the communities,” he assured.

On his part the paramount ruler of Panda Development Area, Mr Joel Aninge, Odyong Nyankpa, said some of the villages where the incident occurred said another resolution of the meeting was for all sides to further understand and appreciate one another much more than they have ever done before.

“We have also resolve to ensure that we will put in more efforts to ensure peace reigns in our area and we will be on the alert not allow any external force to come and cause any commotion in our area like it happened because this attack came from outside,” he said

In separate interviews, Leaders of the Mada and Fulani communities both lauded the outcome of the security and pledged to abide by the resolutions of the meeting.

Those attended the peace meeting include village heads, officials of different security outfits, leaders and elders of both farmers and herders in the community who recently clashed, leading to the loss of lives of many and loss of properties.
