The Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has conferred on the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and Professor Brunon Holyst 93 years old Polish Scholar, with Honorary Doctorate degrees for their contributions to society respectively.
The Management of the Institution have awarded Honorary degrees on the two professors during University 7th Convocation ceremony in Keffi.
Our correspondent who monitored the event reports that Gambari was conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) while Holyst was conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil).
Speaking at the convocation, Governor Abdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa described the conferments as well deserved and a testament of the fact the duo have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavours.

“Let me congratulate the distinguished awardees who have just been conferred with doctorate degrees. This indeed is the manifestation and the eloquest testimony of their enormous contributions to the development of our dear nation, humanity and the world at large,” he said.
He thanked them for their contributions to the development of NSUK and assured that his administration will also continue to prioritize the education sector because education remains the most endearing legacy parents can bequeath to their children.
“I make bold to say that no amount of investment and sacrifice is too much to provide quality education considering it’s envious importance in tackling insecurity and other vices.
“It is for this reason that we have sustained our commitment to the education sector since our assumption of office.
Also in his address Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Suleiman Bala-Mohammed, stated that the conferments were due to the significant contributions made by both awardees to human endeavours.
“Prof. Ibrahim Gambari is been conferred with a Honorary doctorate degree for his tremendous role in Nigeria’s foreign policy, having served as one of Nigeria’s longest serving Ambassadors to the United Nations.
“While Prof. Holyst Brunon, a renowned Professor of Criminology, Victimology and Criminalistics Psychology at the Menegment Academy of Applied Science in Warsaw, Poland.
” He is been conferred with a Honorary doctorate degree in recognition of his immense contributions to the academic community especially in the field of criminology and Criminalistics Psychology,” he said.
The NSUK VC then revealed that for the undergraduate programme, a total of 5984 graduands were found worthy to be awarded first degree in various disciplines while for the postgraduate programme, a total of 1677 graduands were also awarded various postgraduate degrees.
“The breakdown of the undergraduate programme is as follows: First Class 33, Second Class Upper 1598. Second Class Lower 3906, with Third Class graduands numbering 447.
“For the postgraduate programme, Phd graduands are 134, Academic Masters 633, Professional Masters 357 and Postgraduate Diploma graduands numbering 553. I congratulate all the graduands,” he said.
In a remark, Gambari expressed joy over the conferment and added that he accepted the honour with great sense of privilege.
He also expressed his desire to dedicate the rest of his life to the service of the Institution, Nigeria and the international community as a whole.
“This is really a homecoming for me and I am deeply grateful and honoured for the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate degree. So I am now a fresh graduate of Nasarawa state University and I congratulate myself on behalf of myself, my family and friends,” he said.
In his own remarks, Holyst who described the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate degree on him as a surprise however admitted it was a dream come true and he would always relish the honour bestowed on him by NSUK.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to management of Nasarawa state university for accepting me into their academic community. The Honorary degree granted me has brought me immense pride,” he said.
Holyst who also delivered the Pre-Convocation lecture titled : A new approach to criminology: a global perspective,” assured that the conferment of the Honorary Doctorate degree will spur him to carry out more scientific researches on criminology despite his age.
The management of the Institution announced the best graduating student to be Miss Obulamah Nadisah Muhammad with Cumulative Grade Point (GPA) of 5.0.
