The Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ), Nasarawa state Council has congratulated Governor Abdullahi Sule, for his re-election as well as all the state assembly members elected.
This was contained in a Communique signed by the Council Secretary Comrade Sunday John and Issued to newsmen at the end of the union Monthly.
According to the Communique ” Members have come out with the following resolutions
- The union congratulated Governor Abdullahi Alhaji Sule and State Legislators who came out victorious at the just concluded polls. They called on those who win to design and implement policies that will alleviate the plights of people of the state.The union admonished those aggrieved to seek for redress through legal and peaceful means.
- Council in session also commended the discovery of oil in Obi Local Government Area of the state and called on government to harness its potentials to add value to the lives of the people of the state.
- The Congress frowned at statements inciting religious and tribal sentiments and hate speech by political actors before, during and after the general elections in the state.
- Similarly, the meeting condemned the activities of some journalists who participated in airing and publishing religious and tribal hate speeches which is contrarily to the ethics of the profession and warned that decisive action will be taken against them.
- The meeting in session condemned the attack on one of its members, Edwin Philip of Breeze FM Lafia by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Crops (NSCDC) during the governorship elections in the state and demanded that appropriate action be taken against perpetrators of the act to serve as deterrent to others to forestall future occurrences. The meeting demanded for compensation to the victim.
- The meeting called on Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) , National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and other relevant authorities to checkmate activities of reckless commercial motorists and baby drivers plying Lafia-Akwanga-Keffi-Abuja road to avoid further lose of lives and property.
- The Congress in session frowned at activities of quaks among journalists in the state and called on it members to report such imposters to protect the image of the pen profession.
- Finally, the meeting appreciated the emergence of one of its members, Hudu A. Hudu as member elect for Awe North constituency at the Nassarawa State Hose of Assembly.
